CUESTA PONIES Section B Welsh and Partbreds
|
Cuesta Ponies strives to breed Section B Welsh Ponies
that are friendly, durable, useful, athletic, and possessing
true Welsh "type". This is what we believe in:
Disposition/Personality /Trainability are paramount.
Durability and usefulness, mean that a pony will last a
lifetime.........athleticism is the ability to do a job with
grace, beauty, as well as talent. Lastly, Welsh type is the
collection of characteristics that separate and define
Welsh from other breeds. Beautiful heads, quality bone,
free, reaching movement from the shoulder, all are
examples............but the hardest one to describe, might
be the most important: Pony Character
My favorite description came from longtime breeder
Jean Shemilt (Rowfantina): " deep intelligence combined
with cheekiness".......pert, sassy, courageous, and loyal.

Cuesta Ponies had its' original beginning on the Central
Coast of California. An area rich in the history of Old
California. Spanish land grants, Missions, Ranchos, all
reminders of another time........
The farm began near an imposing pass over the Santa
Lucia's, a coastal range of mountains. The pass is called,
"La Cuesta" , which means a steep pass/grade. For us, it
not only represented our area, but also a "summit" or a
reaching of the "top", and so, Cuesta Ponies we became.
All our ponies are named in Spanish so to coincide with
our prefix. We do our best to choose names that are
easy to pronounce and spell!
In June of 2002 we sold our farm in California and
began a new chapter in our lives. We moved across
the country to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.
17 ponies made that first trip with 3 more to follow
a few months later.
We are keeping our prefix as a reminder of where
we came from......it will always be part of us.
